Acne Scars

Acne Scaring

Acne is so frustrating but when it leaves a memory of it being their, it's the WORST! Acne scaring can be found all over the body from ingrown hairs to a cystic nightmare. The good news is that acne scars can be treated! Acne scars are formed when the breakout penetrates the skin so deep that it damages the tissue beneath it. This can happen from the nature of acne or can be exaggerated by skin picking.

Common Types of Scars from Acne

-Atrophic scars – flat, thin scars or depressed scars. These occur when not enough collagen is laid when wound is healing.  There are different types of Atrophic scars-

-Hypertrophic scars- These scars are most common on chest and back. They stand above the surface of surrounding skin and are caused by too much collagen during healing.

  • Ice-pick scars – these are deep, narrow, V shaped scars. These are most difficult to treat as they extend deep into the skin.

  • Rolling scars – broad depressions with a sloping edge.

  • Boxcar scars – broad U-shaped depressions with sharply defined edges. They can be shallow or deep. The shallower they are, the better they respond to skin resurfacing treatments.
