Should I be drinking 8 glasses of water every day? Fact or Myth?

Let’s learn some facts about drinking water

Should everyone be drinking 8 glasses of water a day?

Answer is No.

Amount of water you need varies based on your age, weight, overall health and the altitude/ climate you live in. Therefore, you may need more or less than 8 glasses a day.

If you have heart, liver or kidney disease, your doctor may ask you to limit your water intake.

How do I know if I am getting enough water?

Look at your urine. If it’s pale yellow, you are hydrated. More concentrated urine is darker yellow- if so, drink more water.

Is tap water as safe as bottled water?

In general, they are equally safe to drink. Tap water is good for the environment since plastic water bottles creates pollution.

Recent evidence indicates that humans constantly inhale and ingest microplastics; however, whether these contaminants pose a substantial risk to human health is far from understood.

Important note

If you are concerned about the quality of your home tap water, you can read water quality report from your community’s water supplier. You can also test it with a home test kit to see if you need a water filter.
